Ceramics for Kids

Kids love to make a mess, so let us give them a safe and creative space to do it! We will make pinch pot creatures, and cup and saucer combos that will keep your kiddo continuing to be proud of their creation each time they use them!

Drawing Faces

Instructor: Carolyn Faulkner

A follow up to drawing the human body. Learn to draw facial features correctly by dividing the head into sections and placing the features in the correct place. After learning this, many types of faces and features will be learned, culminating in a finished portrait using graphite pencil to shade.

Play In this rare small setting summer camp artist/entertainer /educator Mark Dannon Herbert will be leading the class on a learning adventure exploring some of the visual and musical elements used for his band Broccoli Brothers Circus . Participants will make several of their own puppets and props and develop characters and skits over the course of the week . Sure to be a fun experience to remember.

Week 2: All About Bugs: CAMp FULL

Mixed Media art camp for the younger kids with insects as a visual focus In this camp we will be mixing it up with some cool science facts about insects as we get creative... Did you know that some red paints and dyes are made from a crushed up bug? Campers will get to create with paint, clay, beads and more. We will explore artistic concepts like symmetry and printmaking all while having lots of fun.

Week 2: We Love Art!

When everything is an art supply, anything can happen! Your tiny artists will get to visit the galleries at Cameron Art Museum and use the works in the exhibition as inspiration. Then we will cut, tear and practice making marks with unconventional materials that will help create the masterpiece of their dreams! We will finish our week of with a celebration and an art show!

Learn about well loved artists by creating in their style! Paint upside down like Michelangelo, Splatter paint like Pollock, Pop Art your portrait like Warhol, and more! Each day we will focus on a different artist and work in their style. The week will culminate with an "art opening" on Friday to celebrate the work of our young artists.

Let your creativity soar by creating multimedia sculptures! From cardboard, to wire, to fabric and yarn, you name it, we'll work with various materials and themes throughout the week to help you understand the basics of building a 3D design. Start thinking about your work from all angles and learn to apply design elements and principles to unify your work. Have the opportunity to learn and play with your composition in a judgment free zone!

Learn about the wonderful world of fiber arts. In this creative camp we will learn to work with plant and animal fibers to create functional and wearable pieces as well as turning fibers into works of art. Mixed Media

Afterschool Art Club!

Instructor: Happy Olmstead

We'll be creating with homemade paper and plaster for four weeks!

First, we'll mash up our own paper pulp from recycled materials and make lovely sheets of paper - art in themselves or a gorgeous surface for writing letters or creating drawings.

Next, we'll use the sheets of handmade paper to create bowls, cups, and such. Finally, we'll create sculptures out of the paper pulp as well. Once we finish two weeks of paper explorations we'll spend two weeks creating masks and sculptures with plaster. You can create a mold of your own face or use a mannequin face. 5th through 7th graders are welcome!
