Drawing

Exploring the World of Georgia O'Keefe

Instructor: Carolyn Faulkner

This amazing female artist drew and painted everything from flowers, to buildings, to mountains to skulls!

In this class the student will draw images of their choice using O'Keefe's creations for inspiration. Will you draw a skull in a desert setting or a huge flower floating in the sky? Perhaps you will choose colorful mountains or a building that creates a more somber mood.

You can either shade your drawing with graphite or use colored pencils to complete it.

Carolyn attended Ringling College of Art and Design, received her Bachelors and Masters degree from East Carolina University, then furthered her studies in Taiwan, Japan, and France. She was recognized in the Washington, DC area as a surrealistic painter and for her teaching program for both children and adults. She has continued her artistic and teaching path since moving to Wilmington several years ago. Carolyn has been selected to exhibit her work in many juried national and international exhibitions by well-known artists and curators. Her works are in private collections nationally and in France. Faulkner feels it very important to find and nurture the creative side of each student. She tries to help them see things in a different way in order to approach the world with an open and seeing mind. Faulkner believes the combination of a strong foundation in technique and creativity contributes to your total art experience.

Drawing the Human Body

Instructor: Carolyn Faulkner

Learning how to draw the human body can be challenging but there are easy ways to accomplish this. By using basic shapes and beginning with the head to learn proportions, it isn't so daunting. My youth students often say they want to learn how to draw the body but it's so difficult. Once I show them some tips, they feel more confident, and their drawings improve!

For ages 8 and up.
